Prom Hair For 2013

It is a prom time again and every young lady is asking herself  "How should I do my hair?", "What is the latest style?", "Should I change my color?", or "Perhaps I should cut my hair..."
But, do not despair. I always told my clients: "When you go out, you need to wear your hair that suits you and makes you feel comfortable. If you are going dancing or to some special occasion event, do not make your hair too elaborate. Keep it on the simple side, so your hair won't collapse. If you make it more elaborate make sure you have enough bobby pins holding your style."

So, my advice to all of you ladies is, that if you are putting your hair up, put it up in such way, that it will hold through out the day/evening/night. If you decide to take your "hair-do" down at some point (during the event), make sure your hair looks good after you take all your bobby pins out, too

Below are some styles (some easy, some more elaborate) that I like a lot, and which could work for prom:

  3. Twist/twirl side hair strands and secure them with an oversize barrette or clip above in the occipital bone area, making sure your hair holds in place

Gentlemen - You Can Style Your Daughter's Hair Too

This gentleman really knows how to solve his styling issues. And his precious daughter knows that daddy knows the best.

What Went Wrong In Styling Her Hair?

The video below is a proof that you have to be careful with your hair - coloring, styling, etc. Especially when you do your hair at home. So what could have gone wrong? First watch the video then read below.

Perhaps:
  • it was over bleached or colored (she colore's her hair) and although the heat was not too high it could have burnt it off because the hair was "hanging" there and waiting for another slightly stronger friction to fall off
  • the iron's heat was too high for her fine hair
  • she kept the iron on the hair too long and burned it
  • she was using her iron too often and didn't realized her hair was too "fried" and waiting for one more curling action to fall off
  • she used a wrong styling product and actually the chemicals in it and heat reacted and burned it
Any other ideas come to your mind?

How To Scrunch Your Wavy Hair

I would like to share with you my best technique about "how to scrunch hair, so it gets as strong waves/curls as possible". That is only if the hair is wavy or curly.
A straight hair and a hair with a very loose wave would have to be permed first.

After I shampoo my hair with my favorite shampoo, I towel dry my hair (actually squeeze - I  do not like to rub it). Then I apply a pea sized conditioner to my palm and add few drops of water, rub my hands and then squeeze it into my hair ends. I comb my hair with a wide tooth comb (or untangle and separate my curls with fingers). Then I use a small amount of gel on my hair, which I scrunch into my hair all over. If my hair gel is too thick I add few drops of water. I start with my hair kind of wet, so it would form nice ringlets. I use a diffuser similar to Croc Magic Diffuser to dry my hair. I heat up my hair, then gently scrunch my hair in my cupped palm.
Due to a wetness of  my hair it usually takes longer time to dry it, but the outcome can be a superb - I get a really nice ringlet-y hair style.

Credit: the image of Meg Ryan above is how my hair can look if I do all of the above mentioned steps without using any styling tools, ie. curling iron. I found the image on THIS WEB SITE.

FEATHER HAIR EXTENSIONS

It is so popular to have feather hair extensions these days. When my girlfriend asked me about them, I told her that I will send her links to websites - where to buy them and how to attach them. And I decided to share the info with you too.

There is a website that you can write your zip code and click and you should see salons in your area that sell these feather hair extensions. So click HERE to find out your nearest salon.

And below you can see a video how to attach them - it is super easy and Kandee does a great job of teaching you. Enjoy.

HAIR CUTS & HAIR STYLES - Different Types Of Bangs

There are many types of bangs (or fringe in British English). You cannot go wrong with any type/style of bangs (fringe) as long as it suits your face. There is no need to follow the latest fashion. Just choose what looks the best on you. I had written a page about face types and hairstyles on my website. Below you can see examples of several different types/styles of bangs I found on internet to help you out with "bangs".

  • STRAIGHT ACROSS BANGS
Above is a perfect example of very blunt cut bangs just below the eyebrows. The bangs are accentuating model's beautiful eyes. This dramatic image example is borrowed from shorthairwithbangs blog.

An example of straight across bangs that are touching eyebrows. This image example was borrowed from static.becomegorgeous.com

"Betty Paige bangs" are very short, straight across (above the eyebrows) cut bangs. I know a lot of you may shudder at this blue color, or even the bangs, but Katy Perry's face shape and skin color are actually complementing her hairstyle. This very dramatic image example is borrowed from tumblr.com website

While looking for good examples of different styles of bangs, I came across this beautifully executed asymmetrical blunt cut (straight across) bangs. The example is from hairstyletwist.com website.

  • BANGS FOLLOWING THE SHAPE OF YOUR EYEBROWS
Above is an example of bangs that are cut to follow this model's eyebrows. I love this type of bangs. The longest point is in the middle between her eyes and on the sides. Her jaw is square, but the style of these bangs make her face look a lot softer, because they break up the squareness. This image example is borrowed from hairdohairstyles.com website

  • WISPY BANGS
These short wispy bangs can be created either by razor cutting or scissor cutting. The razor creates very wispy look without use of any other tool. I loved to do it for clients with fine straight hair. Another way to cut this type of bangs is to layer the bangs with scissors and then use thinning scissors to give the hair wispy look. I used this technique on people that didn't like the razor. This image example is from kaboodle.com website.

This model has a long version of wispy bangs. Use same techniques as above, only leave them longer. This image example is from short-haircuts.org website.

I love these very short wispy bangs from fashionstyleme.com

Adam Lambert's wispy and asymmetrical style that belongs to both WISPY BANGS and also SIDE SWEPT BANGS. I found this example on coolmenshair.com

  • SIDE SWEPT BANGS

The side swept bangs usually cover eyes if combed straight down and can be actually quite long. To achieve this fashionable look, hair should be parted quite far to the side. I found this fabulous image of Cameron Diaz on kaboodle.com website.

Coco Rochas' head turning side swept bangs. The color of dress compliments perfectly her hair color. I found this image example on shoppinglifestyle.com website.

Another example of side swept bangs this time on wavy hair. I found this example on mynewhair.info

ARE 1930's STYLES BACK?

Well if they are, I am all for it. I was always in love with the 30's and always wished that the style would come back, although I love the casual clothes and hairstyles - but why not to wear some "fancy-shmancy" for the evening - on the head or on the body, to spice up our life?

HAIR STYLES FOR 2010

I hate when people say short hair will be trendy, or long hair is in.

In my opinion a woman or a man should allow her hairdresser make changes, but only what suits her/him the  most. It doesn't matter if it is a color or cut or style. A hairdresser should always take in consideration the face shape, skin color and the clients body type.

So ladies and gentlemen, do what ever pleases you as long as it looks great on you and as long as boss says it's ok.

I wish you all very happy new year 2010, and try to look your best!
