Gentlemen - You Can Style Your Daughter's Hair Too

This gentleman really knows how to solve his styling issues. And his precious daughter knows that daddy knows the best.

What Went Wrong In Styling Her Hair?

The video below is a proof that you have to be careful with your hair - coloring, styling, etc. Especially when you do your hair at home. So what could have gone wrong? First watch the video then read below.

Perhaps:
  • it was over bleached or colored (she colore's her hair) and although the heat was not too high it could have burnt it off because the hair was "hanging" there and waiting for another slightly stronger friction to fall off
  • the iron's heat was too high for her fine hair
  • she kept the iron on the hair too long and burned it
  • she was using her iron too often and didn't realized her hair was too "fried" and waiting for one more curling action to fall off
  • she used a wrong styling product and actually the chemicals in it and heat reacted and burned it
Any other ideas come to your mind?

WHEN WELLA AND MISSONI CREATE FASHION TOGETHER

Yesterday, I published a post about Wella's high-lift color. Today, I would like to share with my readers two videos that represent hair and high fashion at the same time. I always loved Italian designer "Missoni" - they create rather a signature knits with absolutely beautiful colors. If you see any of their outfits on the street, you know it is "Missoni".
In the first video below you can see a top stylist Eugene Souleiman (who represents Wella). He tells us how he "thinks up" hair styles for the runway - this time taking an inspiration from shoes worn by models.
The last video on this page shows a compilation of Eugene's runway work in EU and USA for the year 2012.

BTW I love his knitted hat, I think I will knit me something similar  :-)

And I found one more video for inspiration

Educational Video - Blunt Cut On Long Hair

After I finished my hairdressing school, I was very hungry for more education on hair topic. What I learned in the Big Apple in a prominent hairdressing school at that time, was not enough. I felt like something is missing. So I started taking lessons from stylists that were coming from London to teach hungry beauticians like myself. It was great. It was invigorating. After many years in business I sold my Manhattan salon and  decided to stay home with my baby. But my love for hairdressing has never waned. I still read occasionally interesting articles and do research on topics that interest me, even if I no longer practice my trade in the salon. I answer occasional question about hair here on my blog. And I paint, draw and knit and crochet. And make videos concerning my hobbies and interests. If you click on THIS LINK, it will take you to my newest video that I recorded at my friend's back yard, whose daughter allowed me to use her as a hair model for an educational video about "how to do a blunt cut on long hair".

Cutting, Coloring and Styling a la Toni & Guy

When I was a practicing stylist and a colorist in NYC, I used to take hair cutting classes with English hairdressers all the time. They really know how to teach the right way. This video is great for any stylist to see how a long wispy cut could be done. It is a real pleasure to watch Gary to perform this type of haircut from Toni & Guy's last year's Expressionist Collection. The color is nice too, but I could do without such a strong halo on top of the model's head. I personally would do it softer, not so stark as the haircut is very feminine and angelic.

Ombre Lowlights And Ombre Highlights

The Ombre coloring is becoming trendy all over the world now. Perhaps it is an answer to over-processed unhealthy tresses.

What is it? "Ombre" means shadow in French language. It is actually making light hair darker at the root area down the mid hair shaft, and the ends are kept (or bleached) very light. Thus Ombre lowlights.

But what about ladies who have dark hair. That can be done with 2 different strengths of bleach. Which is can be called Ombre highlights. Watch the video at the bottom of this post.

When applying these Ombre coloring techniques, a great care must be taken when applying the tint, so it comes out in the most natural and soft gradient (fading) way. It could be done with a single process or as lowlights. And there are many different techniques how to do it. Each colorist will do it slightly differently. And it is OK. As long as the transition from dark to light is very gentle.

With a single process (if the hair is heavily highlighted)

  • mix  two different colors separately (one darker and one about shade lighter) and bleach (if your hair is uniform in color and not light enough on the ends)
  • apply the darker tint on the roots (about 1/4 down the hair shaft - the longer the hair is the longer the root application)
  • then take the one shade lighter color and apply it trough the mid section of the hair shaft - overlap the darker shade
  • apply the bleach on the tips of your hair (if needed)
Process all hair for about 30 minutes. Shampoo a couple of times or until all tint is out of your hair. Condition the hair. Style.

With balayage lowlights (or as some may call it highlights and i the hair is not overly blond)

  • mix one color only
  • mix bleach (if your color is too uniform and not light enough on the ends)
  • working in sections - apply a heavier balayage at the root area and thinly spread balayage in mid section
  • if you desire very light tips apply bleach

With foil lowlights (or as some may call it highlights and i the hair is not overly blond)

  • mix one color only
  • mix bleach (if your color is too uniform and not light enough on the ends)
  • working in sections - weave hair thickly every other section and apply a heavier tint at the root area on about 1/4 length of the hair
  • weave hair thinly every other section and apply a tint down from root area to the mid section of the hair
  • if you desire very light tips, apply bleach

Note:

This post should be taken as a first step for a discussion with your hairdresser and/or colorist about your ideas, desires or problems with your hair. Under no circumstances, you should act upon this post ONLY. I strongly advice you to have your hair done by a skilled and reputable hairdresser/colorist in your area.

FEATHER HAIR EXTENSIONS

It is so popular to have feather hair extensions these days. When my girlfriend asked me about them, I told her that I will send her links to websites - where to buy them and how to attach them. And I decided to share the info with you too.

There is a website that you can write your zip code and click and you should see salons in your area that sell these feather hair extensions. So click HERE to find out your nearest salon.

And below you can see a video how to attach them - it is super easy and Kandee does a great job of teaching you. Enjoy.

FASHION AND HAIR 01

Fashion and hair go hand in hand.  Just as you wear your clothes to fit your mood, same is with the hair - it is influenced by your mood in the morning if you go to work, and it is influenced by your mood when you go out with friends, be it a movie night or a party.

Would you wear any of these hair styles designed by Wella (a color company)?
